What is MUN?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an event that replicates the workings of the United Nations (UN). It involves students and participants role-playing as delegates representing different countries in different committees. The goal is to debate global issues, propose solutions, and work towards passing resolutions that reflect international cooperation.
The United Nations has several different committees – which are organizations of the UN in which member states (countries) participate in order to seek foreign policy objectives, negotiate with other countries and reach solutions. Each UN committee is dedicated to different purposes, being responsible for dealing with different problems and therefore having different powers. For example, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is responsible for dealing with, as the name suggests, economic and social matters and has powers to, for example, recommend the implementation of policies with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
